Throughout this journey many have said to me, ” you are an inspiration!” or ” Your story is inspirational.” If you are one of those you probably notice I am not sure of a good response. I don’t feel that way, it feels more like one foot in front of the other with Gods strength and help. To be inspirational? I needed to better understand the word.

a : a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation.
b : the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions
c : the act of influencing or suggesting opinions

I am still uncertain to my story fitting any of these definitions. Today I had the chance to finish up our teams marathon relay. I felt good, and I was inspired by so many who train hard to succeed! As I ran with my all-star friend lisa spodnik ( all-star as she basically ran a half marathon untrained and kept me company…just in case). We saw people of all kind. Ashley pointed out a shirt that read suffering is optional. I pondered this for a moment and said, no that’s not true. That guy has no idea, we don’t always choose our pain. I didn’t stop to talk about it with him. Then another lady was cheering for the runners, she shouted ” you guys are doing something that not everyone can! This resonated too, how for so long I could do what I wanted, when I wanted without much thought. Yet now it was a privilege to be able to run. Not everyone can do this!

Thanks to the help of many prayers and encouragement I finished my 5.5 miles in approx 50 minutes which was my personal goal. It was a beautiful day to run. You can’t beat the start of fall in Ohio, man His artwork and color choices are breath taking. Each day is a gift. Today was special and fun.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1, 2 ESV)

I was also part of a relay team and I thought for a moment that you would be there running. Though I did not see you, I am glad that you were able to do that. I recall seeing you ready to go on the sidelines with me a few years ago and you were very pregnant. Inspiration??? You define the word.

Look at your definitions of inspiration and they all fit. Inspiration is hard to come by when one is lulled to sleep by the ordinary. In fact ordinary is something that sometimes becomes resented until extraordinary comes along and normal is pushed out of the equation.
The trials of living can take us to a closer or farther walk from our Maker. You have chosen the closer walk, arm in arm and to witness that walk gives your readers a dose of definitions a,b and c.
As to running 5 or so miles in ten minutes or an hour, I am not tempted. Inspired as to the participants determination yes. Tempted to try it myself, not unless a bear is chasing me and I have no choice.
